Scotgate House
Scotgate House, 2 Scotgate Road, Honley, Huddersfield, HD9 6JQ
When the world was in lockdown during the pandemic, Horizon Healthcare Homes opened up a new world for the people we support within the organisation.
Scotgate House offers a unique day service for adults with a learning disability, with a variety of person centered and homely rooms such as a craft room, cinema room, multi-sensory room, games room, dining room, as well as a fully equipped changing room.
The service is located in the village of Honley near Holmfirth, which has access to a variety of local community resources as well as beautiful countryside. The service supports people to engage actively in the local community as well as in the centre.
Scotgate House is not a typical day service provision. We offer a much more personalised service that is adapted to each individual. We support people to connect with others who have similar interests and help people to build relationships, promote health, wellbeing and independence, as well as achieve goals and most of all to have fun.
The idea for the service was conceived during the very difficult time in the pandemic when the people we support in our residential services were unable to enter the community due to their vulnerabilities and the national guidance imposed on care homes. In response, Horizon Healthcare Homes opened up a brand new exciting day service, which enabled individuals to be able to access an alternative environment, to engage in the fun activities they were doing at home, whilst remaining safe, with a view to offering a place to meet other people from different services and the wider community as the pandemic restrictions were reduced.
The service made a massive difference to people’s lives at the time and continues to do so. People have continued to develop personal skills, engage in a range of different activities and form relationships with others from different homes.
